Agincourt Lancers dominated the David & Mary Thomson Titans 35-0 in Tier 2 boys high school football on Wednesday at their own field.

The contest evened both team’s early season record at 1-1.

Lancers came out flying in their first possession of the game, using the running attack to advance the ball down the field and scored to make it 6-0.

With a penalty called against the Lancers on the extra kick attempt, Agincourt went for the two point conversion and scored to increase their lead to 8-0.

Agincourt’s defence chipped in early and often, first stopping the Titans inside the Lancers’ five yard line, forcing Thomson to turn over the ball and then coming up with a fumble just inside the visitor’s two yard line that immediately became a touchdown.

The defensive play of the Lancers came up large throughout the game, with two interceptions, and near pick offs.

“Our linebackers did a really good job holding them in there and our db’s [defensive backs] did really well too,” said Tre McCallla, kicker for the Agincourt Lancers.

The Lancers jumped to 15-0 lead in the first quarter.

Agincourt’s defence continued to frustrate the Titans as they couldn’t gain any sort of momentum.

The Lancers caused turnovers on downs and the offence led by quarterback Nicholas Cartagenise took advantage of their opportunities, scoring on their possessions and had a 28-0 lead at half time.

In the second half, the Lancers continued to play a well-rounded game on both ends of the ball.

On another turnover, Agincourt’s Alijah Agosto-Henry ran 60 yards for a touchdown off a punt return putting them ahead 34-0. McCalla kicked the extra point to make it 35-0 in favour of the Lancers.

Agincourt receiver Quile Jose felt good about his team’s performance but felt there were some areas that needed to improve.

“I think it was an amazing game for us because there is a lot of new people so I think we can get better. We will get better,” said Jose, who is playing in his first season with the club.

“The problems is with our transitions and with some of our guys don’t know our plays so got to practice more.  But it’s looking bright for us, it’s looking really bright.”
