Arrest made following fatal hit-and-run

One man is dead and another is facing a list of charges after a fatal hit-and-run near the intersection of Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue early Sunday morning.

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Oct. 20, a man in his early 20s walking in the area was hit by a pickup truck, which then fled, police say.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police arrested 24 year-old Anthony Sowkey on Sunday night. He is charged with robbery using a firearm, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death, impaired driving causing death, failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm then death, and operation of a vehicle while disqualified.

According to published reports, the hit-and-run may be linked to a separate incident — the robbery of a taxi driver — but that has yet to be confirmed.

Sowkey was scheduled to appear in court Oct. 21.
