Cops catch two men after violent store robbery

Published on

Police arrested two teenaged men last week in connection to a violent robbery at a Scarborough shop.

On Nov. 17 at about 9:15 p.m., police responded to a robbery call at a convenience store on Ellesmere Road.

Police say two men — one armed with a knife — covered their faces, entered the store, and allegedly assaulted and made demands to a store employee.

The two men and the employee got into a struggle before a second employee arrived to help his coworker, police say. The two men then fled the store.

The employees suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police say.

Corey Kawal, 18, and Sanjay Turner, 18, both of Toronto, were arrested on Nov. 20. They were charged with two counts of robbery, wearing disguises, using dangerous weapons and aggravated assault.

The two men were set to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Ave. E. on Nov. 21.
