Home-repair fraud targets seniors

Police warn of suspicious soliciting in Scarborough

Police are looking for two men in connection with a possible local fraud scheme targeting seniors.

Early evening on Jan. 20 two men solicited senior-owned homes in the Victoria Park Ave. and St. Clair Avenue East area, police say. The men reportedly approached the owners of the homes and convinced them they needed roof repairs.

After supposedly completing the repairs, the men went with the home owners  to a bank machine to withdraw the payment, police say, despite no actual repairs being done.

One of the men being sought is described as white, 5-foot-10, and age 35–40, and the other is 5-foot-7 with a very heavy build.

Police are advising everyone to beware unrequested home repairs and to contact them at 416-808-4100 if they are suspicious.
