A 29-year-old man has been taken to a hospital in Toronto after being struck by a taxi during a police pursuit.

The accident happened after a taxi diver was assaulted in Toronto’s entertainment district early on the morning of Jan. 26, police say.

Officers on foot were chasing the man who was fleeing on foot when the suspect was hit by another taxi and later taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to a recent CBC news report.

The Special Investigations Unit of Ontario will be investigating the incident. The watchdog service investigates all incidents involving police and civilians where people are killed, injured or make allegations against police.

There has been no word yet as to any charges being laid against the man.
