Ford defends Bieber on radio show

Despite his own scandals, Toronto mayor backs pop star

After being asked on a Washington, DC-based radio show about his views on Justin Bieber, Toronto mayor Rob Ford defended the pop star.

Known for making international headlines himself, Ford said on Jan. 29 he’s not a fan of the pop star’s music but he asked the hosts to think back to when they were his age.

Bieber surrendered himself to Toronto police on Jan. 29 after allegations surfaced about an assault on a limousine driver in Toronto on Dec. 30, 2013.

This is not Bieber’s first arrest. In fact it’s his second — this week.

In Florida, he was charged with driving under the influence, driving with an expired licence and resisting arrest without violence. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

“He’s a young guy, 19 years old,” Ford said. “I wish I was as successful as he was.”
