Satirical song written for Rob Ford

Covers three years of political scandal in four minutes

With the 2014 Toronto municipal elections in the near future, local songwriter Marc Coward has written Mayor Rob Ford a song for his re-election campaign song.

Though he may not to want to use it, as it lists the mayor’s shortcomings over the past three years.

Coward wrote lyrics for a Toronto version of Billy Joel’s 1980s hit “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” renamed “T.O. Is on Fire.” He then posted the song lyrics on the UrbanToronto forums, where musician Jeremy Nichols found it.

Nichols’ humorous cover is a four-minute summary of politics during the last three years in Toronto.

The chorus of the song is “Toronto is on fire. Three in ten believe him. So he keeps deceiving. Toronto is on fire. No we didn’t light it. But we’ve got to fight it.”
