Neighbours capture man after woman, 82, robbed

Hold suspect for police to arrest him

Several neighbours held down a man and waited for police after an 82-year-old woman was robbed in the lobby of her apartment building near Sherbourne and Dundas streets on Feb. 23.

A man was assisting the elderly women to enter the building but, once inside, he demanded cash and grabbed the lady’s purse, police say.

A 70-year-old reportedly heard the commotion and assisted his neighbour.

The robber fled the scene but was held down by several other neighbours who came to her aid.

Sahadevan Muttiah, 52, of Toronto is charged with robbery and assault causing bodily harm among other charges.
