Have your say on new police carding policy

Public meeting tonight at police headquarters on College Street

The Toronto police’s carding policy is up for public debate tonight before a new draft of the policy is put into action Thursday. The meeting takes place at 40 College St. at 6 p.m.

The policy allows police to stop individuals to examine their identification without grounds for arrest.

The previous policy has led to allegations of racial profiling in high-incident neighbourhoods and a class-action complaint to the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.

City News Toronto has published the police service’s Community Contact Policy and you can view it here.
