Thomson leaves mayoral race

Will run for councillor in Trinity-Spadina, she announces

Published on

Sarah Thomson is dropping out of the mayoral race and beginning her campaign for councillor of Ward 20, Trinity-Spadina, she announced Tuesday.

She quit because she did not want her supporters to affect the vote between John Tory and Mayor Rob Ford, she said in a phone interview after the announcement.

“At the end of the day we realized we could not get our support numbers and that we were holding back supporters to beat Ford,” said Thomson.

Thomson said she will focus on the issues that effect Trinity-Spadina and will begin her campaign for councillor in the ward that has historically been divided by Liberal-affiliated candidate Han Dong and NDP-affiliated candidate Rosario Marchese.
