Father of two identified as victim in fatal shooting

Scarborough shooting victim Abdul Monir, 31, had arrived in Canada in May

Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Scarborough on Sunday as Abdul Monir, 31, of Toronto.

At a news conference on Sunday afternoon, police said Monir, a father of two, had arrived in Canada in May from Afghanistan.

The shooting took place in Scarborough near the Markham Road and Lawrence Avenue East area.

Police were called to the scene just after midnight where they found two men with gunshot wounds.

Monir was pronounced dead at the scene and the other man was sent to hospital with injuries.

Police are looking for a man who was seen fleeing the area. He is described as black, possibly in his 30s, with a thin build, wearing a light blue windbreaker and a black baseball cap.

According to police, the suspect was last seen entering the passenger side of an older-model, light-coloured, four-door Toyota or Honda which travelled southbound from the scene.
