Mayor Rob Ford released an audio statement thanking Toronto residents for their good wishes and encouraging them to support his brother’s candidacy for mayor.
Frail-sounding Ford released the statement Thursday from Mt. Sinai hospital where he will begin chemotherapy treatment to fight liposarcoma. Dr. Zane Cohen announced the mayor had the rare type of cancer at a press conference on Wednesday.
“Let me stat by saying thank you to the good people of Toronto,” Ford says in the recording. “I am humbled by your overwhelming kindness and support; it means the world to us that so many of you reached out to show concern and offer prayers.”
Ford also said he’s completely supporting his brother’s campaign and urged Torontonians to rally behind Doug.
“I’m encouraging my brother to jump into this race, wholeheartedly, right now,” he said.
