U of T named best in Canada

But slides from 17th to 20th in QS world rankings

The University of Toronto has been named the top university in Canada, and is among the top 20 universities in the world, according to the latest QS World University Rankings.

U of T slid into the 20th spot this year from 17th in 2013. It has consistently ranked in the top 25 since 2011 and clinched the top spot in Canada in 2013.

“We are pleased to be recognized once again as the premier university in Canada, and to be named among the world’s very best,” U of T President Meric Gertler said. “Our continued strong performance in the QS rankings is a testament to our world-class education and research, as well as the excellence of our faculty, staff and students.”

Four other Canadian universities were also ranked among the top 100 schools: McGill University, University of British Columbia, Université de Montréal and University of Alberta.

The QS World University Rankings — widely considered among the most influential international university rankings — have been published since 2004, collecting 90,000 survey responses and evaluating more than 850 universities over 10 years.
