Latest polls suggest John Tory as Toronto’s new mayor

Almost half surveyed support Tory, with Doug Ford falling further behind

A recent poll suggests John Tory will most likely be elected mayor of Toronto.

The poll conducted last week by Nanos Research surveyed 1,000 Torontonians. The results were John Tory at 49 per cent, Doug Ford at 27 per cent and Olivia Chow at 24 per cent support.

Only five polls remain before the election.

Pollster Nik Nanos said Tory would have to commit a grave error for Ford to regain leverage and secure victory.

“He needs John Tory to blow up (and) have some massive problem either with his transit plan or a problem with the campaign in order to try to close the gap,” he told CTV. “But right now we are running out of political runway because the election is nearing.”

Tory’s lead came before yesterday’s mayoral debate, which included Doug Ford for the first time.
