A 17-year-old charged with second-degree murder in the death of Hamid Aminzada, appeared in court Wednesday and will remain in custody until his next appearance.
Aminzada, 19, died from stab wounds Tuesday afternoon. Police say he attempted to break up a fight in a hallway at North Albion Collegiate Institute in Etobicoke.
The accused, who can’t be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is scheduled to make his next appearance in court on Oct.14.
Toronto District School Board education director Donna Quan released a written statement Tuesday on the stabbing.
“This is a sombre day for the entire TDSB community, especially the students and staff at North Albion, as we mourn the tragic loss of this young life,” she said.
