Rob Ford gives first public speech since cancer diagnosis

Mayor makes first public appearance since hospitalization at annual Ford Fest barbecue

Rob Ford made his first public appearance since being released from the hospital.

The mayor gave a speech to hundreds of anxious fans during the annual Ford Fest barbecue Saturday evening in Etobicoke.

With a hoarse voice and with family behind him, he described his past struggles with rehab and his current battle with cancer.

He continued to support his brother Doug Ford’s mayoral bid, calling him the “next mayor of Toronto.”
