Mary Fragedakis has done it again. The incumbent for Ward 29 has held off rivals Dave Andre and John Papadakis and will be representing Toronto-Danforth on Toronto city council for another four years.

“I want to thank all of my supporters in Ward 29,” Fragedakis said. “I want to thank all of my volunteers. I want to thank my family. I couldn’t have done it without them.” She got especially teary-eyed when she thanked her mother, who went door-to-door with her for the past two months.

Fragedakis was first elected in 2010. Tonight, she had a clear majority with a total of 59 per cent of the votes. Her closest competition in the race for councillor was Dave Andre, who garnered less than half that.

There were four more contenders, and Fragedakis campaign worker said “the other candidates were quite right wing. “

Fragedakis said that she doesn’t plan to take a day off to celebrate her victory. She said she intends to continue the work she started four years ago to build a greener city.

“The work starts tomorrow,” Fragedakis said. “We are going to continue to build a more liveable, green, family friendly Ward 29.”

She rounded off her victory speech with her reaction to the outcome of the mayoral race.

“I know we have a new mayor,” Fragedakis said of John Tory. “Hopefully, it won’t be as tumultuous as the last four years.”
