Child seized in robbery spree

Published on

A girl, 12, and a boy, 14, were arrested late Dec. 4 and charged with committing multiple robberies and the attempted abduction of a child.

Police report a 38-year-old woman was robbed at approximately 7:45 p.m. in the Lawrence Avenue and Markham Road area. The culprits snatched her purse and then fled on foot. The woman was able to flag down a passerby who called the police. They were unable to locate the pair.

A short while later two people approached a 29-year-old female and her 21-month old baby girl in the Livingston Road area after leaving the Guildwood GO station, police say.

The pair reportedly assaulted the woman from behind and demanded money, her cell phone and her baby, threatening to injure her baby. The woman was able to protect her child until she fell backwards. At that point a girl took the infant. However, the mother was able to safely grab the child back. The pair physically assaulted the woman again before fleeing the scene.

The woman contacted the police who were able to locate and arrest a 12-year-old girl shortly after they arrived at the scene. At approximately 12:15 a.m. the police arrested a 14-year-old boy.

The mother and child were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries and released a short while later.

The two were due in court on Dec. 5. at 9:30 a.m.
