A story-telling festival that started in Toronto nearly four decades ago is returning to East York.
The festival, 1001 Friday Nights of Storytelling, started in the 1970s and has since formed a citywide following.
Trish O’Reilly-Brennan, a musician, actor and member of St. David’s Anglican Church where the event is held in east York came together with the coordinator of 1001 Friday Nights to create the Mosaic Storytelling Festival for the residents of East York.
It’s now celebrating its year running in East York as the Mosaic Story-telling Festival.
“We have gotten so much great feedback from the community,” O’Reilly-Brennan says . “Storytelling is so magical. We live in a reality of 3D movies and helicopters falling from the sky…. We have become alienated from what matters — the story.”
The festival incorporates tales from many multicultural backgrounds — a “potpourri” of culture as O’Reilly-Brennan puts it.
It runs every second Sunday from Jan. 18 to March 25.
The cost is on a pay-what-you-can- system with a minimum donation of five dollars.
