Cineplex cinemas offer Sensory Friendly Screenings

For children with autism and their families to enjoy

Published on

Cineplex Entertainment has announced plans to offer a schedule of Sensory Friendly Screenings. They include 2D projections, increased auditorium lighting, lower volume and smaller crowds.

In partnership with Autism Speaks Canada, these “sensory friendly screenings” provide an opportunity for individuals living with autism, or spectrum disorder to enjoy a movie in a healthy environment. The theatres will provided a calm zone for people in need. All tickets will be sold at the cheaper child price regardless of age.

“We just are very happy to be in a position to offer this service,” said Pat Marshall, Vice President of Communications and Investor Relations for Cineplex. “We hope that the community will embrace it and enjoy the opportunity to bring their family and come and see a movie together.”

The program begins on Valentines’ Day, with a screening of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. Booking and movie titles will be posted on the Cineplex website, two weeks in advance.

There will be three GTA locations participating: Cineplex Odeon Morningside Cinemas, Cineplex Cinemas Mississauga and Cineplex Cinemas Vaughan.
