Toronto Pearson International Airport and American Express Canada (AEXP) are joining to provide free music and e-books downloads to travellers at the airport, they announced Tuesday.

The music and e-books are to be provided by partnerships with HarperCollins Canada and Sony Music Canada and be available to travellers on a dedicated website.

The service, Entertainment on Cloud 10, will be made available starting Tuesday and roll-outs will continue throughout February and March. American Express Canada expects the service to be available for all travellers by the March Break weekend.

“This is a new way to bring that benefit to life in a completely different environment and give prospects a taste of card membership,” Amanda Betti, a spokesperson for AEXP Canada, said in an e-mail. “The timing couldn’t be better as we head into peak travel periods.”

According to Pearson, almost 32 million travellers had passed through the airport in 2010. The airport sees about 86 thousand travellers per day.

The new service will not affect other benefits that are currently available to members.

“The benefits available to card members as part of the Cloud 10 program will remain the same, with the addition of the complimentary e-books and music download available through Entertainment on Cloud 10 that is available for anyone travelling though Pearson,” Betti said.

Entertainment on Cloud 10 is the first of many services that will be provided by AEXP, which found that 82 per cent of Canadian travellers would like the free content if made available.

Betti said that the company is “always looking for ways to innovate and expand on our partnership…[to] enhance the airport experience for travellers and card members.”
