An innovative metal mixing technique called Mokume-gane was used to add individuality to each medal, such that no two medals are the same.
The medals go through 25 production steps and took about two years to completely design, according to the Mint.
More than 4,000 medals will make their way to Toronto this summer for the Pan Am games, which run July 1 –26.
