The minimum wage for Ontario officially went up by 25 cents to $11.25 per hour last week, making it Canada’s second highest minimum wage, after the Northwest Territories.
The new minimum wage is better aligned with the recent increase in Ontario’s Consumer Price Index and part of a larger economic plan for the province, according to a press release from the provincial Ministry of Labour.
Premier Kathleen Wynne tweeted the increase is meant “to support low- and middle-income families and keep up with inflation.”
