With the temperature dropping close to freezing, leaving very icy roads and bridges, a series of accidents took place in the GTA today.
It began with a male pedestrian in his 20s being struck and killed just after 6 a.m. in the area of McCowan Road and Kenhatch Boulevard just south of Finch Avenue East.
Police said it was hit and run, eventually finding the vehicle at a nearby McDonald’s parking lot.
One person was taken into custody and another is still outstanding.
Soon after the hit and run, Police confirmed there was a seven-car collision at Kingston Road and Highway 401 in East Scarborough.
At least one person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Several minutes after that, Toronto police tweeted about a head-on collision at the Prince Edward Viaduct over the Don Valley Parkway.
Police said three were taken to hospital, two with minor and one with serious injuries.
And then at approximately 7 a.m., two cars spun out and hit a guard rail at St. Claire Avenue and Avoca Avenue.
Meanwhile, police said there was another collision involving three cars near Victoria Park Avenue and Belmore Avenue, resulting in a car flipping over.
There was an eight-car collision near Morningside Avenue and Ellesmere Road, which resulted in minor injuries, according to police.
One car slammed into a pole near Kingston Road and Manse Road, resulting in a few down hydro wires on the roadway.
About 9 a.m., police tweeted out another collision involving two vehicles at Pharmacy Avenue and Gordon Baker Road.
Police have warned drivers to be cautious as the roads are wet due to changing weather conditions.
