Benefit concert at Danforth Music Hall

Riverdale Share holiday concert coming on December 6

The 23rd annual Riverdale Share holiday concert takes place at Danforth Music Hall, on Dec. 6, at 3 p.m.

The $30,000 expected to be raised will be given to organizations in the spring.

“We raise money for various organizations in the Riverdale community who support families in different ways,” executive director Susan Baker said.

Many organizations will benefit from the funds raised by the concert.

“South Riverdale child parent centre — they do a drop in program, Ralph Thornton Centre has after school programs for kids who would normally go home to an empty house. East Youth Community Centre — we gave money to them to start an advanced music program after school. So they’re all programs that benefit families in one way or another,” Baker said.

The event is hosted by Mike Tanner and includes local artists such as Uncle Ron, Tara Hazelton and Arlene Bishop. The Riverdale Share House Band will also be performing.

The Riverdale Share Concert is run by a team of about 15 volunteers who have met since September onwards to plan the show.

Volunteer jobs include selling tickets, promoting the show and collecting food from local restaurants to feed performers and volunteers the day of the show.

“They’re getting our signs up, getting our lawn signs up, they’re putting together our program book, selling sponsorship, collecting donors, lots of people in the neighbourhood and small businesses donate money,” Baker said.

Admission to the show is $20 with a non-perishable food donation.

“The show would be $60 to $100 regularly for this kind of talent,” Baker said.

Tickets can be picked up at The Big Carrot, Treasure Island Toys, It’s My Party, or online.
