Yesterday morning Metrolinx approved a five per cent fare hike for longer trips.
Some of the improvements include new weekday, evening and weekend train service.
“We know that our customers expect value for their money and that’s why we use added fare to make important improvements that will make their commutes with us more convenient, more reliable and more comfortable,” Metrolinx spokesperson, Mark Ostler said.
The recent improvements that are complete or underway include 19 new GO train trips, which combined offers thousands of additional seats for residents to get around the GTA.
“An incremental fare increase helps us respond to increased ridership, while maintaining and improving our facility and equipment maintenance and our service reliability,” Ostler said. “The fare increase will help go transit to meet the increasing demand for go services, and continue to maintain a high level of customer service while making improvements across the system.”
The fare increase takes effect February 1, 2016.
