5 ways you can give back this season

See how far your time and money can go by giving back during the holidays

Christmas is often referred to as the season of giving. When we’re kids, it tends to be the opposite. Then, as we grow older, the importance of sharing and helping others tends to hit home. Looking for ways to give back this season? Here are some great ways to do it.

Volunteer:

Many organizations are looking for volunteers during the holidays. Check online directories for local shelters, soup kitchens and charities for the best place to spend your time this season.

Hand out care packages:

Gather up a group of friends and family members and hit the streets. Fill your care packages with sandwiches, gloves and hats. If you see a person in need, offer them a package. You might want to make some hot chocolate and spread around some warmth.

Host someone for the holidays:

There are lots of families or individuals who will be alone on Christmas. Sign up online or put ads up in your neighborhood to let people know that you’ve got some extra space in your home and at your table.

Sponsor a child or family:

Head in to the New Year with good intentions. Research different companies like UNICEF, World Vision and the Christian Children’s Fund. Decide which organization offers the most appeal and can do the most for a child or family.

Donate:

While you can do a lot to give back without spending a penny, money can go a long way. Consider charities like Salvation Army, Goodwill and Feed the Children. Whatever amount you donate could make the world of a difference.
