No celebration of Canada’s 150th in works here

Toronto has no plans, after federal campaign dropped

Over a week since the cancellation of “Canada 150 Give Back” campaign due the economic chill, Toronto seems to have no plans for celebrating the country’s sesquicentennial.

No information related to Canada’s 150th birthday posted on the city’s official website (www1.toronto.ca).

The Toronto Observer called 311, but through the customer service was unable to find anything about the event.

The 311 operator also confirmed the lack of plans with the mayor’s office and it quickly became official. “There are no plans for the occasion yet,” the operator said.

Canada’s sesquicentennial will occur in 2017. Maple Leaf Strategies was the private agency working for the past two years creating big ideas for the occasion, but recently dropped the campaign due to the decline of the economy.
