Women in Toronto police class up 18 per cent from previous year

Toronto Police Class 1503 had its highest percentage of female graduates on Thursday.

The graduating class is 48 per cent women, with more than a third being a visible minority. It’s 18 per cent up from last year, an achievement the force is apparently proud of.

“It’s nice to see such a diverse graduating class,” said police services board member Dhun Noria. “I’m also very pleased to see so many females here.”

Of the seven honour awards presented, four were won by women.

Toronto Police have been pushing to diversify their force in recent years to help keep up with the diversity of Toronto.
