Tafelmusik completes Beethoven symphonies

Performed 'life-changing' Ninth at Koerner Hall

Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra had made it their goal to perform all nine Beethoven symphonies, and they did it.

Feb. 7 was their final performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at Koerner Hall, Telus Centre for Performance and Learning.

“It was quite magnificent. I don’t even know if the word magnificent is even appropriate,” said Benjamin Wismer who was there for the performance. “It was truly life-changing.”

Wismer had been to several orchestral concerts before, but he said nothing could beat Tafelmusik’s performance on Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

“I’ve been listening to classical music all my life, seen quite a handful of performances, but nothing matches the level of Tafelmusik,” Wismer said.

Tafelmusik tweeted the day just after their final performance thanking everyone for their support and also including information about their next performances.

“TY to everyone for your incredible support during our #Beethoven9 run — the hits keep coming w/ #Mozart this month.”

Tafelmusik is holding a fundraiser to raise enough money for the recording of their performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony from Feb. 4 to Feb. 7. A goal of $15,000 is set.

“Of course I’ll be supporting them,” Wismer said. “They changed my life, so I want to change theirs.”

The next stop for Tafelmusik is Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre, Jeanne Lamon Hall to perform The Best of Mozart.
