Locations of Toronto Community Housing Fires
Recent fires at Toronto Community Housing high-rise buildings have sparked conversations about fire regulations and safety for local residents. Here are three tips to ensure fire safety in apartment buildings.
1. Fire alarm system inspectations
“The fire alarm system was working at the time of the fire. We conduct monthly inspections of all fire safety systems at our buildings,” TCHC said in a press release about the fire at 1315 Neilson Rd.
Ensure your apartment building conducts regular fire alarm system checks and the smoke detectors in your unit are in proper working condition.
2. Have an evacuation plan
Prepare an evacuation plan for all residents in your unit. Locate the closest exists in proximity to your unit to ensure your safety. It is better to be over-prepared than under-prepared.
