First Canadian prime minister to walk in parade

Organizers of Pride Toronto are elated Justin Trudeau will partake in the summer celebration, the first Canadian prime minister to do so.

Trudeau’s participation is “a remarkable way to create diversity in the country,” said Mathieu Chantelois, executive director of Pride Toronto. “Barriers will be broken, memories will be made and people will be free.”

Trudeau is scheduled to march in the July 3 parade alongside Mayor John Tory, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, council members and members of the Toronto chapter for Black Lives Matter.

Earlier this week Prime Minister Trudeau sent a confirmation tweet.

“This year’s festivities are expected to attract more than 1.2 million supporters,” Chantelois said.

The parade is to start at the corner of Yonge and Bloor streets and end at Yonge-Dundas Square.
