St. Petersburg, Fla.- Ontario native Brad Aldred is an up and coming baseball player with a strong athletic background, as well as strong family bonds.
His grandfather, Joe Krol, played in the CFL and won five Grey Cups with the Toronto Argonauts, while also winning the Lou Marsh Award for top athlete in Canada in 1946.
Even though Krol is deceased Aldred still thinks highly of his grandfather and hopes he can be as good as his grandfather.
“You know its awesome, it’s inspiring and hopefully I can be as great as he was and inspire my kids and my family later,” Aldred said, after being asked about his grandfather.
Aldred also has a strong connection with his younger brother. He talks about being able to teach him some things when he gets home.
“Defiantly I’ll like to teach him a few things about baseball. Seeing he is into the other sports like volleyball, and basketball hopefully I can bring some stuff out of here and learn, and bring it back to him, and take him out to the fields and show him what I learned,” he said.
Aldred is very athletic. He plays varsity basketball and volleyball, along with baseball, with hopes of staying in shape.
“I just want to stay athletic,” he said. “I will do anything that I can to keep in shape.” However, he says that he favours baseball over basketball and volleyball.
Now Aldred will get ready to play a string of games for the Canadian Jr. National U18 Team in March, in Florida.
“It is an honour not a lot of people get — the chance to put Canada across their chest. It’s been my dream. I’m just glad I could make it true,” he said.
