Security threat at college causes partial evacuation

Published on

Sections of Centennial College were evacuated Wednesday morning due to a security threat.

Police responded at about 8:30 a.m. to campus security’s reports of a suspicious note left on one of the lockers at Centennial’s Progress Campus. Blocks B and C of the campus were evacuated as a precaution.

“Based on the advise of Toronto Police Services, we did a partial evacuation, so they could do their proper investigation,” said Rosanna Cavallaro, vice-president of marketing and communications for Centennial. “We cleared everything within an hour or so and then we could allow everybody back into the campus.”

After their investigation into the threat, police deemed it safe for students and faculty to re-enter the evacuated parts of the building.

A police spokesperson said there is an open file on the case, but no ongoing police investigation.

Police would not say what was on the note and would not comment further on the specifics of the security threat or their investigation.
