JDRF sets $5M goal for 27th Revolution Ride

Stationary cycling event at Dundas Square one of 19 across Canada

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) held its 27th Revolution Ride today with a goal of raising $5 million today.

“Our goal is $5 million and we wanna get our name and brand out there. In the past we’ve come very close to [the goal] and we’re very optimistic this year,” said Shannon Carkner JDRF’s regional director for central Canada . ”

In Toronto the event was held at Yonge-Dundas Square. This was Carkner’s first time at a ride in Toronto. She said she was looking for great energy and excitement when the even started.

“We have 2,000 riders participating today. We usually have some walk-ups so we think we’re gonna hit 3,000,” she said.

Bike rides were held in 19 cities in Canada. The event takes place outside with stationary bicycles. It annually raises money that goes toward finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

Riders from various groups were in attendance. Three financial institutions had volunteers representing them: Scotiabank wearing red, RBC in blue and TD in green.

The bike ride continued throughout the day until 5 p.m.
