Tickets on sale for first-of-its-kind AGO show

Mystical Landscapes exhibit features speakers and masterpieces

Tickets go on sale Oct. 7 for the Art Gallery of Ontario’s exhibit, Mystical Landscapes: Masterpieces from Monet, Van Gogh and more.

The first-of-its-kind exhibition focuses on art, nature and mysticism. It includes works by renowned painters of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The exhibition includes talks from author Ross King, astronaut Chris Hadfield, exhibit curator Katharine Lochnan and philosopher and political theorist Charles Taylor.

Adult admission costs $25. Youth and seniors get discounted rates. AGO members will be able to visit the exhibition before it opens to the public, with free admission.

Katharine Lochnan spent five years planning the exhibition for the art gallery. The AGO is working in partnership with the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, to have the exhibit in Toronto.

“These masterpieces convey experiences that cannot be put into words” Lochnan said in an AGO press release. “They express the artists’ mystical experiences of something greater than themselves, and allow AGO visitors to contemplate their own deeper realities.”

RBC is the lead sponsor for this exhibit, which will run from Oct. 22 to Jan. 29. Artworks by 36 artists from 15 countries will be displayed. The exhibition will include guided meditation and a pop-up planetarium to accompany the talks and artworks.

“As the role of the landscape in contemporary art continues to evolve, seeing these works, and recognizing their impact on visual culture becomes increasingly valuable,” said Kim Mason, a regional president for RBC, in the press release. “We are proud to support such a noteworthy collection of works and I highly encourage art lovers to take in this spectacular exhibition while it is available.”
