Toronto Police Chief to host first Twitter Q&A

Chief Mark Saunders will answer live questions from citizens on Wednesday

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders is making history.

At 4 p.m., he’s hosting a live Q&A session on Twitter in an effort to reach out to communities that feel like they don’t have a voice in the city.

This marks the first time a Canadian police chief will partner with Twitter Canada for such an event.

“As Toronto Police consults communities across Toronto on safety and modernization, Twitter is a natural space to host a question and answer with the Chief of Police,” said Jennifer Hollett, spokesperson for Twitter Canada.

“Citizens can #AskChiefSaunders questions from wherever they are, as well as participate in the conversation at large.”

Saunders wants suggestions on police modernization but users will determine the discussion topics and he hopes the platform will help him reach a wider demographic.

“We have done extensive community consultations for the Transformational Task Force but we know we’re not reaching everyone,” Saunders said. “I hope this opportunity from Twitter will help us hear from everyone on the modernization of policing in Toronto.”

The public can participate by tweeting to @MarkSaundersTPS and using the hashtag #AskChiefSaunders.
