Police make arrest in nine-month-old killing

Accused faces first degree murder charges

A man has been charged for the murder of a women who was found dead more than nine months earlier.

On Jan. 30, friends attended the woman’s residence to socialize and found her deceased. The women is identified as Sylvia Consuelo, 34, of Toronto.

The cause of death was not released immediately but a few days later police revealed Consuelo was suffocated after being raped and beaten.

The police responded to the call at 4:45 a.m. at an apartment complex on Kendleton Drive. They appealed for witnesses to come forward and arrested a suspect on Nov. 3.

Najib Amin, 29, of Toronto is charged with first degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Eglinton Avenue West, at 10 a.m. on Nov. 4.
