Would-be robbers locked inside marijuana dispensary

The armed robbery of a marijuana dispensary in Little Italy was foiled on Sunday evening when an employee locked the two robbers in the store.

The employee called police while the duo tried to shoot their way through the locked storefront.

Toronto Police have arrested a man and a boy for the attempted robbery.

Two people disguised in masks had entered Green Buddha Medicinals, on College Street east of Ossington Avenue, at about 9:30 p.m., according to police.

One of the robbers pointed a loaded revolver at an employee and demanded marijuana and cash, police say.

The other assailant carried a large hockey bag, in which they loaded stolen goods.

Employee escaped

The employee was able to escape from the facility through the front entrance. and proceeded to lock the two suspects inside the dispensary before calling the authorities.

Police say the suspects then fired the handgun several times into the store’s front door, attempting to escape.

No one was injured during the incident, and the weapon was recovered.

Abdullahi Dirie, 19, of Toronto, has been charged with 10 offences, including robbery while armed with a firearm.

A 17-year-old boy, who is also a Toronto resident, has been charged with eight offences. He cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
