Toronto police have released the image of a suspect wanted for robbery and the assault of an 18-year-old woman at Fiction nightclub Saturday.

Officers responded to a call made by friends of the victim, who had her phone stolen, at the venue on 180 Pearl St. around 1:30 a.m.

The picture of the suspect had not been released until Thursday evening when it was posted by Toronto Police Service as a “social media photo.”

The photo was not found on a page belonging to the suspect, but was instead provided by staff from the club, Const. David Hopkinson said.

Typically clubs have a photographer who will take pictures of patrons and post these on their websites.  I believe the photo we have was obtained in this way,” he said. “[Just] because we have his picture doesn’t mean he was identified.”

Hopkinson said that because the picture is a good one, he believes the man will be identified quickly.

The victim reported she was dancing with her friends when a man brushed against her. The man opened her purse and took two cell phones from it. When she pursued the man, he turned, punched her several times, and hit her with his beer bottle. The man then fled as the victim’s friends were calling for security.

The man is described as being in his early 20s, about 5-foot-10, and 180 lbs. He has brown spiked hair, a moustache, full beard, and piercings in both of his ears.
