A Toronto man is facing charges after a replica gun was used to threaten a woman on a TTC bus, police say.

Officers from 51 Division searched for and arrested the man on Jan. 25 after a call from a woman saying she had been threatened by a man with a gun on the 75 Sherbourne bus.  They recovered what appeared to be a semi-automatic pistol and discovered the gun was not real.

The man had followed the woman onto the bus, police said.

“He sat down and placed a backpack beside her, then stood up and lifted his jacket showing her a weapon,” Constable David Hopkinson said. “He made a gesture causing her to fear for her safety.”

The Sherbourne 75 bus runs from Sherbourne Station to Queens Quay East and Lower Jarvis Street.

The woman was able to exit the bus. She then called 911.

When police arrived they searched for the man. He was found a short time later and arrested.

“There were no other patrons on board the bus, and no injuries during the altercation,” Hopkinson said.

Theo Dillenberg, 27, is facing three charges: assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was to appear in a College Park court on Jan. 26.
