Toronto man arrested Monday faces multiple charges

One man has been charged and another remains in hospital after a stabbing at College subway station on Monday.

TTC officers engaged in a brief foot pursuit just before apprehending the suspect, who has since been in custody, police say.

The victim, a 60-year-old-man, was found with a serious stab wound and rushed to hospital. His condition has been reported to be non-life-threatening. He is in stable condition.

Reports of a man being stabbed on a subway platform came in around 12:40 p.m. on Monday.

The subway was reportedly heading southbound toward College Station at the time, leading to parts of the Yonge line being shut down for several hours pending investigation. The line resumed operations just before 4:30 p.m.

Thomas Sommerville, 27, of Toronto has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon.

He was to appear in court at Old City Hall on Feb. 13.
