The opening of the Yonge Sheppard Centre’s Kitchen Club food court on Apr. 12 brought back memories for the host of the Food Network’s “Bake with Anna Olson.”

“I actually grew up not far from here. My girlfriends and I used to come here and hang out,” said Olson who hosted the opening. “But that was way before there was any of this.”

A small audience and a television crew sat attentively to watch Olson’s demonstration on baking glazed jam turnovers. She also had plenty of commentary to share beyond her recipe.

“Baking is more popular than ever. With our dietary needs and perhaps allergy restrictions and portion size, you know that when you bake something with love it really shines through,” Olson said.

There were cookbooks to buy and a chance to win a stand mixer.

For those with an appetite for more than Olson’s baked treats, there were nine new eateries to choose from in the food court, including A&W and Jimmy The Greek.
