Two vehicles crashed at the intersection of Midland and Passmore avenues at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, causing a local power outage.
An orange SUV was turning left onto Copthorne Avenue when a white Lexus SUV driving northbound on Midland entered the intersection, according to witnesses.
The vehicles collided and the white Lexus jumped the sidewalk, rolling onto the front lawn of 2 Copthorne Ave.
The orange SUV struck an electricity pole with a transformer.
This caused a neighbourhood-wide power outage from Brimley Avenue to Midland Avenue. The power outage initially lasted from 10:30 p.m. to 11:03 p.m.
Justin Sarino, a steel worker at the AGF company, heard the accident while having lunch at Passmore Avenue.
"All of a sudden it went BANG and the power went out" Sarino said.
Upon arrival, Sarino saw two females sitting in their orange SUV.
“We pulled two ladies out of that car,” he said.
“The car was full of smoke,” Sarino said. “They said, ‘We didn’t know what to do.’ They said they’re sorry.”
After ambulances arrived on scene, both females and the driver of the white Lexus were rushed to hospital.
According to police on scene, the wires above may still have been live, and they warned bystanders to stay far away.
A TTC bus was stopped at the intersection at the moment of the crash. Police were asking to obtain the footage from the bus.
Police closed off the street from Midland and Steeles Avenue to just beyond Passmore. The intersection remained closed for the night as police carried on with their investigation.
Power was restored at 11:03 p.m, but went back off from 11:17 to 11:32 p.m., according to Hydro.
