Team Red rallies to beat Team Black at Blue Jays’ Tournament 12

Rundown leads to winning run thanks to heads-up base running by Deschamps

Catcher Nicholas Deshamps helped rally Team Red to a 5-4 win over Team Black at the Toronto Blue Jays’ Tournament 12 event on Thursday afternoon.

Deshamps scored the winning run from third base while teammate Giordano Mezzomo was caught in a rundown between first and second in the top of the sixth inning.

Team Red’s Tyrese Johnson opened the scoring in the top of the second inning after a throwing error by Team Black catcher Kaden Gray allowed the outfielder to score from third.

Team Black stormed back with four runs in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by a two-run single by outfielder Tanner Almond.

Down 4-1, Team Red began its comeback one inning later. Johnson’s triple scored Jason Begin to start the rally. Deschamps’ sacrifice bunt then scored Johnson, cutting Team Black’s lead to 4-3.

Shortstop Drew Howard tied the game in the fifth inning when his single scored Williams Camacho Soto. Deshamps’ run in the six sealed the victory for Team Red.

Vicarte Domingo earned the victory for Team Red, throwing a pair of scorelss innings and striking out three batters.

Team Black pitcher Carson Lumley was charged with the loss after giving up the game-winning run in the sixth inning.
