Toronto Maple Leafs announced a series of transactions on Monday as they cemented their final 23-man roster ahead of their season opener on Oct. 2.

Four players have been placed on waivers for the purpose of being reassigned to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies: Kenny Agostino, Kevin Gravel, Nic Petan, and Garrett Wilson.

Egor Korshkov, who signed a two-year, entry-level contract back on May 1, has also been assigned to the Marlies.

Matt Read impressed during his Professional Tryout agreement he had with the organization, but has been released. He has moved on to sign a one-year deal with the Marlies.

With the roster now whittled down to its 23-player maximum, that means four members of the team are rookies, including Rasmus Sandin (the Leafs’ first 19-year-old defenceman since Morgan Rielly), and Ilya Mikheyev (arguably the most well-rounded of the freshmen and already a Mike Babcock favourite).

“The truth in hockey today isn’t necessarily the truth tomorrow,” Babcock said, to reporters when asked about how difficult it was to arrive at this list of players.

“Each day you keep going on and you try to make the right decisions based on what’s happened so far, but they’re not easy decisions and I think decisions we still have coming — we still have [Travis] Dermott and [Zach] Hyman — we’ve got lots of decisions [to make] here.”

Toronto will host the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
