Nailah Rowe’s four goals led an offensive explosion as the Centennial Colts opened their home season with an emphatic 6-0 victory over visiting Fleming on Tuesday night.

The women’s soccer team showed cohesion throughout, while evening their early record at 1-1.

“I’m really proud of everyone’s work ethic and the possession. We definitely dominated everything about that game,” said midfielder Jessa Braun, after the game. “It was a completely different match than our first one.”

After an unplanned sports hiatus due to COVID-19, the team rebounded after opening the season with a slow start, having dropped their first game against St. Lawrence College, 2-1.

Fleming and Centennial played a physical game right from kickoff, each registering numerous shots on net but neither conceded an early goal.

Colts’ rookie Brieanna Grant had more than one scoring chance on net during the start of the game but was unable to convert. However, just after the 32 minute mark, the forward found the back of the goal to register her first career OCAA goal.

Not even five minutes later, captain Nailah Rowe scored her first of the season, 2-0 Centennial.

With time added to the clock before the half, Grant lined up for a free kick after being tripped, and drilled the ball into the top left corner for a 3-0 margin.

The captain opened the second half by taking a chance outside the 18 yard box and potting it.

As the rain picked up, so did the intensity of the Knights, increasing their possession during the second half and having countless runs, but they were unable to finish.

At 53 minutes, Rowe registered a hat trick, chipping in a kick from the sideline that deflected off the goalkeeper into the net, bringing the lead to 5-0.

During the last five minutes of the game the Colts leading scorer continued to dominate, as Nailah Rowe scored her fourth goal of the game to cap off a dominating performance.

“I’m excited for Friday and how we can build on this win,” said Braun.

The Colts next game comes at 7pm on Friday against Loyalist College.
