Jack Cassar is excited get back on the field for the 2022 CFL season after a rookie year interrupted by a hip injury.
The linebacker is ready to go out in full force and help the team in any way possible with hopes to win the Grey Cup.
His Toronto Argonauts lost a one possession game to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Eastern Final in 2021.
“We were pretty close last year,” says the Mississauga native. “I definitely think this year is going to be our year to win.”
Getting back to the Eastern final and beyond will not be an easy feat and the Carleton alum has been putting in the work.
“I’m going to the gym twice a day, running three to four times a week,” says Cassar, in an internet interview.
The 25-year-old linebacker was taken 11th overall in the 2020 draft and was named U Sports First Team All-Canadian in 2019.
Beyond working on his body, the former Raven is also looking forward to work with the Argonauts new defensive coordinator, Corey Mase
“I want to be able to understand the playbook with our new defensive coordinator.”
Another thing the former All Canadian linebacker is thrilled about is getting more playing time with his university roommate and fellow linebacker, Trevor Hoyte. drafted 33rd overall by the Argonauts in 2021.
“It was super exciting to be able to play with Trevor,” Cassar says. “It felt like we were back in university”
Cassar and the Toronto Argonauts will kick of their 2022 campaign hosting the Montreal Alouettes on June 17 at BMO field.
