Keely Shaw took home another bronze medal for Canada in the women’s C4 3,000-metre Individual Pursuit Final, on Friday at the Paralympic in Paris.
The Midale, Sask., native finished with a time of 3:46.942, beating Samantha Bosco, of the United States, who put down a 3:48.589.
Shaw repeated her podium result from 2021 at Tokyo, in the same event.
Shaw and Bosco traded the lead back and forth during the firsovertook the fastest times for the first few laps on the 250m banked oval, but the Canadian eventually took control and hung of the remainder of the 12-lap race.
“I had so many doubts before the last round,” said Shaw, to Cycling Canada. “I didn’t think I had what it took.
“So it was a race of pure mind games. It was about cutting my legs, cutting everything my body was telling me to stop, all the while knowing I couldn’t, and trying to remember that I have a pretty good track record when it comes to bronze medal finals.”
Earlier in the morning, the 30-year-old Shaw ranked third in the qualifiers with a finishing time of 3:44.012.
The Canadian is a five-time world medalist in the 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023 World Championships.
In 2009, the Saskatchewan native fell off a horse on her family farm, leading to her diagnosis of a broken blood vessel in her brain causing paralysis in her left side.
