Four-time Canadian Paralympic athlete Yuka Chokyu lost in three sets to Brazilian Daniele Torres Souza in her second match of the Group C round robin on Friday, at Paris.
In a dynamic battle with high scoring differentials, Souza triumphed 21-16, 15-21, 21-7 at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena.
This was World No. 10 Chokyu’s second Paralympics, and came in off a bronze medal at the 2023 Parapan American Games.
World No. 15 Souza played an aggressive match, capitalizing on Chokyu’s unforced errors with frenetic pace.
After a convincing first-game victory by Souza, the Canadian battled back in the middle frame, using an aggressive approach that overwhelmed the Brazilian’s defences, winnining 21-15.
But the tables turned in set three, and Chokyu went on the attack, pulling away for the set and match.
Chokyu will look for her first win, on Saturday against Thailand’s Sujirat Pookkham, a silver medalist at the Paralympics in 2021 at Tokyo.
